August 27th & 28th 2011

Hi Guys
We really had fun and learned a whole lot this weekend. I hope that I didn't wear you out too much!  Thank you all the really interesting input that everyone gave. I really enjoy having this size group due to the variety of experience that everyone brings and shares.I hope these pictures give you all good memories of the weekend. Johan, thanks for mentioning your experience of building the obstacle course (rebar in particular) and Victor, thanks for all your knowledge on world finance. Victoria, in your honour, I think that from now on the 'you know what' will have to be referred to as a 'cotton puff'! (by the way, I thing that you also set a new record for distance with a spud cannon).
Quality time in the classroom

Steady hands

Family teamwork - It's great to see people work together.

You did a nice accurate job Piet!

Looking good Victoria.

You did well Ayla.

Adding the finishing touches.
Closing in on a perfect fit!

Intense concentration.
A couple of easy tricks - note the 'cotton puff' in the background. Ayla, thanks for taking these great pictures, even if I look like a very old man in the one below

Fun with slings.

For anyone who couldn't follow the splicing, this should help - Haha - a very handy and simple skill to know. Does anyone want me to post a short video of this?

No course would be complete without the customary class photo.
Ayla's winning smile.

You are officially 'certified'.

There are no strangers here, only friends we have not met yet.

Stay in touch.
Best regards.
Roy.

  1. Fab pictures of a wonderful weekend, learning new skills in a great atmosphere with lovely people. We both enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We've been eyeing up trees for their log potential, and will never again trust any wooden structure without at least one m23 bolt every 50cm, 2 miles of rebar in every wall, and definitely no support poles buried directly in the ground. And as for CCA?, NO WAY! Thanks to all our classmates for their great company and to Roy for his excellent teaching skills.
